To ensure the safe use of the hydraulic valves, the engineers of Gnali Bocia, a leading company in the sector of connecting elements, have to meet the design demands of the components to be sized. The process starts with selection of materials, which already implies a first selection of the characteristics of the hydraulic valves. In fact in environmental conditions, a material has a specific resistance to yield, as well as a specific Young modulus and strain limit: all of these also represent the reaction of the material to temperatures. Another important parameter is the trend of these characteristics applicable to hydraulic valves according to the specific temperature: on any increase in temperature the reaction of the metal may pass from fragile to elastic and this must be taken into account to ensure the correct design of a valve. Temperature also strongly influences the phenomenon of creep. This effect modifies the resistance capacity of a component on any increase in temperature, causing the structural failure of the valve if subject to even normal loads, but at critical temperatures. Normally this involves a temperature of approximately 40% of the melting temperature, although this can vary according to the load applied on the
hydraulic valves.
